Jennifer Collins, with a broken arm and cracked ribs. is trapped in her home by the blizzard of the century. Without power or telephone service, and with gale-force winds threatening to tear the roof off her trembling house, she waits for help.

Assistance comes in the form of Rick Jenkins, a volunteer fireman with search-and-rescue certification. Rick seeks to take her to a shelter, but when a toppling tree crashes his truck, Rick and Jennifer must concentrate on simply staying alive until other help can arrive.

As Jennifer learns more about her unexpected guest, she recognizes the pain that has frozen his soul. The broken arm from a car crash makes it hard for Jennifer to fend for herself during a huge blizzard; Rick, torn up with secret guilt for hurting her, ends up trapped with her for a few days, but though she's falling for him, he, like everyone else, is convinced that youth pastor Don is better for her.

(Though reviews are inherently subjective, I prefer to provide some organization to my opinions through the use of a personal rubric. The following notes may contain spoilers.)

Plot and Setting: 4 -- Plot is engaging. Has unique elements and no major holes, but a few shaky bits and/or a slight lack of focus. Setting is clear and believable. Timeline may be a bit hard to follow. A big storm, one romance-that-isn't, two romances-that-are, and dealing with car accidents, loss, and forgiveness. Lots going on, but it works well. I did get a bit frustrated that, even though it was made clear to the reader early on that Don and Jennifer were not meant to be together, so many different characters kept harping on that theme for so long. I understand the reason, but it became repetitive. I also found Rick's long disappearance, followed by basically an instant proposal, to be a bit weird. The timeline was a bit tricky to keep track of after the storm, and had a few contradictory statements (how long did she have her cast on?).

Characters: 3.8 -- Main characters are relatable, realistic, interesting, and dynamic. Some minor characters have depth, while others may be slightly stereotyped or simplified. Relationships between characters are not especially well developed, but what is there is generally good. I did like all the main characters, apart from the unnecessary angst over the end of Don and Jennifer's relationship. I did appreciate that they all came to their senses fairly calmly, and Don and Jennifer both moved into other relationships without any additional drama. Though both those new relationships do go from zero to marriage pretty quickly. Rick's struggle to forgive Rory was powerful, and the conversation they ultimately have is full of wisdom.

Mechanics and Writing: 3.3 -- Scattered typos, punctuation issues, and word errors. (>30/100 pgs) None of the errors seriously hinder understanding. Generally solid use of POV, with a few errors or oddities. Generally skillful writing. Errors include: compound word and/or homophone confusion, mild punctuation or formatting issues, and some odd or awkward sentences. POV is all 3rd person, alternating between Jennifer, Rick, Don, Ashley, and Irene. Mostly the POV shifts between sections, but a handful of times it turns into head-hopping, shifting back and forth mid-scene.

Redeeming Value: 5 -- Well-developed, central, uplifting themes. Drugs, alcohol, violence, etc, are not glorified at all. No explicit sex scenes. Clear moral guidelines for behavior. Very clean. Though Rick ends up stranded in Jennifer's house for several days and nights, it's clear they respect each other and are focused on survival. A powerful lesson on forgiveness, plus returning to God (prodigal-son-style) and also approaching relationships based on God's direction rather than a shopping list of what 'should' make a perfect mate.

Personal Enjoyment: 4.8 -- I loved it. It made me feel in all the best ways, and leaves me content and satisfied. I’d enjoy reading it again.

Whiter than Snow Finding Love in the Blue Ridge Mountains Book 4 edition by Yvonne Lehman Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

This story just did not work for me. The plot felt contrived. The biblical reference felt forced. And the whole wide story about the mother was ridiculous and useless. The only reason I gay more than 1 star was because I was able to finish the book, although skimming was required. I am stunned to learn this author has published other books, it felt very....inexperienced.
This was my first book by Yvonne. Was just glancing through a list when I saw the book and read the summary. Wasn't sure what to expect but I was intrigued. Well just note that it took me just over 2 hours to read... and I bawled my eyes out. I truly loved reading this book. It really got to me. I can't wait to grab another book from Yvonne !!!!
Yvonne Lehman delivers, once again, with a heart warming tale of love's true redemption. Her vivid descriptions make you feel the numbing cold of the "blizzard of the century". The conclusion brings the warmth of spring to your heart. Be warned, you will need your hanky near the end.
I enjoyed this book. I related well to the characters. The way forgiveness is talked about and then lived out is very good. Each of these books by Yvonne Lehman seems like a tasty bite. They aren't long, but they pack just the right amount of sweetness for enjoyment. I have read a number of these now and haven't been disappointed by a single one.
It is always so uplifting to read another book by Ms. Lehman. It is clear you don't have to have sex and violence to enjoy a book. So enjoyed this latest one. Read it all in one night. It rates the highest in my opinion. She makes each book easy to read and can be read by all without worry of having any thing be offensive. Bless you Ms. Lehman for having the talent to write these novels.
When Jennifer Collins went to break up with her boyfriend, he broke it off with her. But when she’s involved in a car accident after leaving, he begins to blame himself and become overly attentive, much to Jennifer’s dismay. Caught alone on the mountain in the blizzard of the century, Jennifer is having a hard time doing anything with her broken arm and cracked ribs until Rick Jenkins of search-and-rescue comes to check on her and gets trapped there. Now here is a man she could find appealing, but he pushes her away, apparently suffering from an earlier tragedy. Only God can cure such pain.

This was a great story that read fast because it was hard to put down. I found the parts about Irene, Jennifer’s mother, boring and they added little to the novel, so I skimmed though them. However, this didn’t involve that many pages, and the rest was riveting with some parts even being delightfully funny.
One thing I loved about this book was that it was clean, full of romance, and God. Sicne finding this author I have read 3 of her books and none have let me down in reguards to a great read, She shows that God is in the details without being over the top with it like some authors can be. She writes simular to that of Janette Oke except she writes present day where Janette wrote of times past. Her books show that romance can be in the little things too and not just the grand gestures.
I rate books differently than others. I use my stars a

(*****5) can’t stop talking about it will do all of #4.
(****4) Will keep, reread, buy and pass on another copy and promote the author as best as I can.
(***3) Will pass on and share with others it was a great book keep as a reread as well when I get it back.
(**2) Will donate it to thrift store. Glad I read it but not worth reading again.
(*1) Not worth reading, great for a fire starter though.

For me this was not only a 5***** but a I hope there is much more!
