I’m a 30-something year old, stubborn and hot-headed Italian. I’m confident and passionate about life, and keeping true to myself. I’d be lying to myself if I wrote that I don't give much thought to yesterday, and I don't worry about tomorrow – but I do…, to some extent. For those of you in my life, you’re there for a reason! I value my friendships and most importantly, my family. For those who have turned out to be less than a friend – I have learned and grown stronger from knowing you!!!

30-Legged Creature
Thursday, November 11, 2004
The Centipede! It scurries toward you out of a darkened corner, wriggles forth from under the bathmat or area rug, or propels itself along the ceiling. Some facts about the centipede: a) it can run faster than anything that small should; b) it clearly knows your weaknesses, preferring to attack when you are barefoot and/or sleepy; c) it demonstrates its greedy and wicked nature by possessing far more, longer, and spindlier legs than is necessary – 30 legs that is… little bastards. d) Likes dampness and dark spaces, hunts by night…. I might have known you were creatures of darkness, you little bastards!

The above observation can easily be conducted while standing on a chair or other raised surface, shrieking incoherently, or while running down the hallway flapping one's arms and shouting, "Help! Help! Centipede! Centipede in the kitchen! Where’s the damn central vacuum hose!"

The Combat
Someone told me that powered borax works; however, you should say the following while sprinkling the powder… "Eat THAT, you thirty-legged little bastards!

The babies are the easiest. They're slower and far less terrifying. Yell at them, while you squish them with your shoe (direct contact should be avoided, as centipedes are known to carry at least 3 deadly strains of cooties). Gloat about how "that's another one that won't be breeding!! Bwahahahaha!"

Once you have worked your way up to smashing and trash-talking the adolescent centipede, it is time to take on the adult. Don’t let their size intimidate you… When there is a sighting - you must take action quickly and aim carefully, but do not allow yourself enough time to lose your nerve. Do not consider the potential ookiness of it. Focus solely on your task, take aim, and squish with all your might. Squish again even if the enemy seems to be dead already. Only after the second and even third squish, stop and survey the situation. Observe that centipedes bleed purple. This will strike fear into the hearts of any nearby centipedes, and will hopefully make them think twice about revenge.

This was therapy for me in dealing with my own pest-related struggles.

Victims' families angered by new Bernardo movie
Wednesday, November 10, 2004
CTV.ca News Staff

A Hollywood movie about notorious killers Karla Homolka and Paul Bernardo is sparking outrage, despite the producer's assurances it won't be exploitive.

Billed as "the incredible true story of Canada's most lethal couple," the movie Deadly has already been shot for the relatively low budget of less than $5 million US.

But Tim Danson, the lawyer who represented the families of victims Kristen French and Leslie Mahaffy, says there's no need for such a film. "The public has what they want. They don't need anymore," Danson told CTV News. "There is nothing served at this point in time for a graphic, detailed re-presentation in Hollywood format of my clients' violation."

The film's Los Angeles-based producer, however, says the story of a couple without conscience is one that needs to be told.

"This story has a particularly compelling quality to it -- two people who were, to all intents and purposes, a happy, beautiful young couple who were able to descend into such a dark place," Quantum Entertainment's Michael Sellers told CTV, explaining that people need to understand how that can happen.

And besides, Sellers says, he's taken several steps to protect the victims and their relatives. "The victims' family's situation is something that weighs heavily on all our minds.

"We changed all the names and we didn't have them physically resemble the victims. The actresses are over 18. We tried to show as much sensitivity as we could."

In addition, he says Deadly, which is now being edited, won't make it to Canada.

"We have no distributor in Canada, and honestly we have mixed feelings," he said. "I specifically reserved the right not to distribute in Canada. That's where it stands right now. There's still a lot of steps ahead of us."

Actress Laura Prepon, who also plays Donna on That 70s Show, will take on the role of Homolka. Misha Collins of 24 plays Bernardo.

Quantum will release the film early next year, just months before Homolka is due to be released from a maximum-security prison in Quebec.

Bernardo was declared a dangerous offender after he was convicted in the sex slayings of French and Mahaffy in 1995. He's serving a life sentence with no chance of parole.

There was a public outcry when Homolka struck a plea bargain with the authorities, cutting her sentence down to 12 years on two counts of manslaughter.

Two years ago, Danson succeeded in halting a Canadian company's plans to film their own version of the case. (End)
A co-workers reaction was: "I can understand the family’s objections to the movie but, have we not all seen the movies about Ted Bundy, Jack the Ripper, Charles Manson, the movie "MONSTER"? Are the victims of these people any less deserving of our objections?" My reaction: No, I haven't nor would I even think about watching those movies. Portraying human suffering for profit is a social weakness!

The Road to Travel
Success is a journey not a destination..., that's what my fortune cookie revealed. I wonder what's in store for me in this life, and what is the future ahead? I met a 'Seer' along the path, and most of her predictions came true (somewhat). The road to travel is long & strange, with obstacles at every bend - it will make me stronger & very wise, while preparing me for the test at the end. I know I'll go off the path and make mistakes; and I'll pay the price if I do.
My own advise - A box of Ferrero Roche chocolates can fix/solve any problem!
